The year everything settled.
Two trips home to San Francisco, camping trips to the Swiss Alps, work trips to Lisbon and Dubai, a solo quest to the Himalayas, to Montreux Jazz Festival, shooting bands and working on a feature film, and ending it all with a boys trip to Vienna.
It started broke, unemployed, and almost hopeless.
It ended spritiually reborn, with a newfound life perspective, and employed.
In August, I had the pleasure of shooting Orions Belte—a band I've been a longtime fan of—at Musikfestwochen. A couple of these images even landed on their next album cover. You can view the whole collection and the album artwork here.
Then, after a biref trip to Dubai for work, I traveled alone to Nepal with no plan.
This ended up being the most transformative week of my life.
This ended up being the most transformative week of my life.
Only a couple hours after landing, I was walking alone through Kathamandu streets. Suddenly, I hear someone yelling, "Jakob! Jakob!" from above. I look up and see the man who drove me the taxi from airport; he's wearing a huge smile, and calls through broken teeth, "Come up! Have beer with us!"
Up I went. I then found myself in a dim, musky room with six Nepali dudes, smoking cigarettes, drinking beer and tea. This also turned out to be the trek booking agency, so I went ahead and signed up for the five day trek to the holy lake of Gosaikunda.
After a while, Giri asked me, "Would you like try psychedelic honey?"
"Hell yeah I would."
I then ended the year with a dreary, cold trip to Vienna.
